Rough Milling 4-axis

I am trying to rough this part one flute at a time out. of a AL round, working down the part to maintain rigidity. I can 4-axis surfaceand it looks great, but how do I rough it? Any help would be much appreciated. I am sure there is a simple solution to this but I have become very frustrated.

Change your parameters so that it roughs the part. Change the step over to a bigger number, and change stock allowance to whatever amount of material that you want to leave for finishing.

Thanks for the suggestion Allan, but this is not working for me.. if I leave stock on the flute, then the tool path gets messed up. It now can not get into the surface, because I am pushing them closer together with the stock allowance. Is there a sequence I am missing that can make roughing out the material easier?

Sometimes I run into the same problem when cutting a simlar type of feature. The finish path looks great, but the rough path has a lot to be desired. It is usually because the stock allowance makes the inside fillets smaller than the nose radius on the cutter.

First, try roughing it with a smaller size tool, keeping your stock allowance and step over the same.

Another method would be to create a mill volume for the roughing, that has the finished surfaces offset to leave stock, and then add the fillet to match the tool. Then in your NC sequence, instead of selecting surfaces on the model, select the surfaces on the mill volume. I do this whenever the first method doesn't work out.
