RENDERING...Q&A and GALLERY

Post any of your work in progess models that will be rendered at some point. Feel free to give comments on the work that may help. I will start it off with a few recent models and my current Mustang project.

The first three images were rendered with 2.0 Photorender and the last two with1.0 with ARX upgrade.

Those images look amazing! i'm experience with proe but until now have never really had need to render would like to learn though, dont get me wrong i have rendered using basics for presentation work but nothing like those above! Do you know a good place for tutorials? and also i run personal edition of proe wf2 what limitations does this place on me?

Happy modelling...........................and rendering for that matter!

p.s roughly what sort of time did it take to achieve finished images?

Thanks for the compliments Paul...

The render on my computer takes about 45minutes. I dont have any tutorials for you because I taught myself. James Lynch I know has some pretty good tutorials. You might want to ask him. As far as your limitations with WF 2.0. I use a personal edition of WF 1.0 but I have the ARX upgrade which you can see makes quite a difference. That will be your only negative if you dont have the upgrade. The difference between the first three images and the second two.

Thanks skwasim, greatly appreciated. Its nice to hear that I dont post my work for nothing. Glad to see people appreciate it. When the model is finished which should be this week I will make a drawing with basic dimensions and all views and a simplified surface that is used to make the model which I will create and post later on today. The surface that I post is exactly what is used to make a car. This will likely be the only model for a while that I will be able to share. The next car will be the redesign of a 1970 Cuda with modern style like they did with the Mustang which as far as I know has not yet been done. Hoping to get some exposure with this one.

Here is the example I promised. The Green transparent geometry are Surfaces used to project a curve. This is needed to create a curve with more than just a 2D profile unless you use tweak but you will ahve to learn that later but is not necessary to use to make a car. The blue lines are either curves made through two points or curves creat3ed or projected. You will see which are drawn and which are projected because I left the projected lines visible. The center curve is a through curve through two points and made normal to two planes. If the four boundaries are connected then you will be able to create a bondary blend through the four curves. Tangency isthe most important thing is making a car. After you make your surface, morror it to a center plane as represented with the red surface. You have to be able to think ahead on what and where your surfaces will point to. Practice makes perfect. I taught myself and you can teach yourself too.

Great works, Piotrowski!

I'm also interested in ISDX, and I have a small question: do we need to re-define the accuracy before modelling or use pro/e default? If must be adjusted, which method used to calculate model accuracy? 'cause I sometimes encounter problems with boundary blend surface in ISDX andmust adjust the accuracy (just at my convenience)

Thanx!

Yes, sometimes you will have to adjust accuracy but the default is usually fine as long as your curves meet for sure. Just make sure whenever making curves that the curve end you are using is selected as a reference so the new curve snaps to it. Only every once in a while do I have to adjust the accuracy so I dont really have a solid number to give you. Basically jsut mess with it or recheck your curves. After you do it for a while you will get to the point where boundary surfaces finish qithout any problems. Thanks for the comments!

I am a little confused why so many people have looked at this thread in two days and noone has posted any models. Doesanyone on here actually use Pro besides a few people. Where I work I look around and see all these old guys with nothing to do playing solitaire everyday. Never modeling, never teaching themselves anything. I'm 30yrs younger and doing the same job and better at it because I give a sh*t. I know there are more people out there than just a few of us that model for fun, something to do. Post some sh*t...lets see some models, they dont have to be rendered. Hell, if you dont know how to render then send it to someone who does and they will render it for you. If anyone wants me to render something you need to send me the .igs file with standout colors for all the different surfaces. I would be happy to render anyones work if they are interested. I just dont have time right now to model anything for anyone.

Well you are lucky to have free time either in home, or in job to model that whats you wont, I have a lot work to do and if I will stay long on my job I still wouldn't finish what I have to do, plus at home I must study to finish my collage so time is to short for me. And at job that models what I'm doing aren't so impress and assembly's are to large to render it (well ok I can render some of then but it would take a whole week to render it).
But I promise when I will finish my plane on which I'm doing for my own pleasure it will ended here.
Also you are right about that some people aren't interest in learning something new and force them self to be creative, to do something, but then this is their problem and lose.

hiiii

want to model at home and like to render it also but dont have the kind of experience that u guy's have if someone could come forward and give me helping hand i would appreciate it

Hi Everybody.. very very very very nice renders..

just started a new job and havent go time to model for fun any more, although in my new job it's all surfacing models of the latest electronic consumer designs so that's a bit of fun! and I'm tryign to convince them to buy ARX also. not sure if it's working tho.. but anyway, I don;t own the rights to the model so cannor post a pict of them

keep up the good work!

CPiotrowski, I love your comment about the old guys sitting around playing solitaire. I totally agree with you about trying to learn new things. However I am total newbie and at work I use ProE R20 and at home I use WF 2.0 (I have a full legitimate license with ISDX) The problem I have is that I work all day in 20 and then when I come home it is hard to transition. Don't get me wrong I like WF much better, but the company I work for is balking because they have some old ba$stards that would still rather be on the board than upgrade. Anyways what I am getting at is I hope to have some stuff to post soon, but it will pale in comparision to the cool stuff you do. Thanks for showing us the cars and the potential that Wildfire has. I look forward to seeing the results, and hope to have some stuff to share in the near future. Thanks again and keep up the great work~!!

Thanks Design3D. Unfortunelty I was not able to get the Mustang done due to workload but I was able to get a good portion of the outside details fixed. I am working on the renders now so here is a preview.

Hi,

Mi name is Dario, i am a student at Universidad Simon Bolivar in Venezuela.

I'm part of a the design team of the Formula SAE group at my university, I haven't worked much with the render options in pro-e.

We work in Pro-e WF1.

I wanted to show you part of my work here for you to see, and to ask you where can i find room files to use with the basic renderer of pro.

We dont have ARX :( so im restraint to use only the basics but will like to give a better ambient look to the design for presentations.

can you help me?

this is the rendered model

And this is the actual car on the competition

Ihavn't been able to get the chrome look on my metalic parts, can you help me by giving me the right options on pro for this effect?

I saw another thread where you (CPiotrowski) said that you could send some people the mustang model to check on it. Could you send it to me too? I`ll like to learn from your surfacing techniques to improve my skills for next year prototipe for the competition :)

thanks in advance :)

First off thats a nice looking model you ahve there. I wish it was a highres image so we could see the details. The settings that I used to render that chrome in the first three pics were total black RGB, 50% ambient, 100% brightness. Reflectivity 80%, highlights with white, 80% intensity, 100% brightness. The best I can do for helping you with the model render is get it myself and render it and send you the setup file. But, for me to do that I would need you to send me the .prt and textures and color files.
