PTC_COMMON_NAME

CADSTATION

New member
I have numerous parts that have been checked in with an incorrect PTC_Common_name.

Windchill has subsequently locked these parameters and are uneditable. Does anyone know how to rename these parts?

Or do I have to delete all known existances of this part and then checkout and reassemble with correct parameters?

Can you rename PTC_COMMON_NAME? I didn't think you could. The files Oracle sees and the files Windows sees on a Checkout can be different, depending upon whether something has been renamed. If you rename something in Commonspace and check it out, the physical file stored in the .proi directory will be different to the metadata name in the Workspace. I read something somewhere about how Oracle deals with filenames - internal filename tables and how performance could be affected by renames.

PTC-COMMON_NAME is just a parameter inside the metadata. It is not a pointer in the Oracle tables.

What version of Intralink are you on?

IN PDMLink 8.0 it works like this:

PTC_COMMON_NAME in Pro/E = name in PDMLink

Ifnot specified when creating a new object in Pro/E, the filename will be copied to PTC_COMMON_NAME

Can only be modified using "Rename" in PDMLink (Not in workspace)

Notice that this also will rename all earlier versions of the object.

We are only running Projectlink8 at and will eventually go to PDMlink.(yes I know this is in the wrong order) but unfortunately this ishow management purchased it)

There is no rename option in the "Actions". Still a stuck!

Thanks for the help though.
