Proper Dimensioning Tutorials

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie here. Been using Pro E mostly on creating MOLDS for plastic and die cast parts. Now i'm applying for a new job as a product design engineer. I was wondering if you guys know any good website or have some tutorials that i can look at to learn more about how to properly dimension a product. When i was a mould designer, i always see a customer's 2D drawing with the Length or width or height with the +0.05 and - 0.02 or +0.00 and -0.05, etc...... i mean how do you know how much to give on the tolerances?

thanks

Alvin,

Sounds like you need need to get your hands on a copy of the relevent BS standards to have a look at (BS 308, Parts 1,2, & 3)

Are you in the US or in Europe?

BS is the British Standards

The US equivalent is ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers

http://www.asme.org/

Either of these will sell you comies of the relevent drawing standards. Failing that, find a mech eng and see if he/she has a copy. These standards will show you how to draft and tolerance a drawing. These standards are what Pro/E's dimensioning scheme is based upon

Just a thought,

I presume (like UK and Ireland) there are many tech colleges that will do various courses relating to basic/advanced dimensioning. Might be worth looking up your local ones and seeing what's available (these sort of courses are usually note the most expensive)
