ProE 2000i pc transfer

i just received a new pc at work and am trying to transfer many programs including proe 2000i. program was installed prior to my employment and i am self taught as far as use of the program. the disks i have say "for windows nt and windows 2000 intel based systems" and "for windows nt alpha based systems, windows 95 and windows 98". i am running windows xp. where do i start and what do i need to know before attempting to transfer my hardware libraries. i have the disks that were originally loaded for the libraries but they have been (for the most part) customised to our company numbering system. will there be any problems when transfering? any help is appreciated.

2000i is probably an 8 year old program (I'm guessing). It may run fine on XP, I don't know.

The other concern you will have is your license file. Is your company current on PTCC maintenance? I doubt it or you wouldn't be running 2000i. If you are, download something newer! I'd jump to Wildfire 2 at least. Then you'll need an updated license file for your new machine (I'm assuming you are running a single locked license.)

Assuming thatyou are not current on maintenance, you may be in trouble. You won't be able to run it on the new machine as your license I likely tied to the old one. You may be able to take the network card out of the old machine and put it in the new and get the old license file to recognize it. The license looks for the MAC address from your NIC as the machine CPUID.

On the off chance that you're serving the license from the network, that'll make things easier as you;ll just need to point the installation to the license server.

Oh, I forgot. You'll also need to get the license file off the old machine. Without it, you will be comeletely out of luck, evne with transfering the old NIC.

every so often a screen pops up and says "regaining floating license". i asked the person who is in charge of all expenditures and they said we are not up on the maintenance with ptc.

Ah, if there's a floating license message, then your license is not tied to your PC, it's being served from a server somewhere. You just need the server info.

You should be able to run ptcsetup.bat on the old PC and get the server info from there, if your. Ptcsetup.bat should be in the bin folder of the Pro|E loadpoint.

All that said, what just occurred to me is that in 2000i you should be able to simply copy the entire Pro|E install directory from the old PC to the new and it ought to run just fine (assuming it'll run on XP). No install routine required, there are no registry entries for 2000i.

Even without active maintenance you should be able to get a new license file for the new machine from PTC. You should be able to use the disks for the Intel NT/2000 system, XP is really not very different from NT. You are going to have to read all the documentation on installing & configuring Pro/E. It is not difficult but it is not like installing most windoze programs. Far too complex to get into here.
