Problems installing Intralink 3.4...help!

We are in the process of moving our intralink server installation from one machine over to the another. We thought that it would be a piece of cake, but we are running into a head scratching issue.

We are installing Intralink 3.4 M040 onto a new Windows 2000 machine. As before we installed MO12 and Oracle, but where we are running into difficulty is in installing the oracle patch 9.2.0.7.0, it gets about half-way and then fails. With no explanation.

The frustrating thing is that when we upgraded our existing server, it went through without issue.

We looked at the log file, but since none of us are Oracle people, we don't really know what to look for, but we are trying to find out. Right now we are going through the installation with a fine tooth comb to see if there is anything that we missed (e.g. checking environment variables, ensuring passwords are set properly, etc)

I know thatI will probably get the question why we are running Win2000. Some time ago,the server was running on 2000 whenwe first upgraded to M040and the plan was to upgrade to PDMlink. But with budgets and deadlines that upgrade kept getting pushed back. This time with maintenance expiring this year, we plan to upgrade to PDMlink in October.

Any assistance is appreciated

Are you using Remote Desktop to install the software? If so then you need to use the /console switch (mstsc /console).

Do you have the correct version of Java JRE/JDK installed? I think it's 1.4.2.

Are you signed into the machine as Administrator?

Once the first installation failed, did you remove ALL of the following?

  1. <LI>All Oracle software.</LI>
    <LI>All Oracle registry keys.</LI>
    <LI>~\Program Files\ZeroG folder.</LI>
    <LI>PTC dataserver folder.</LI>

Williaps,

No we are not going through Remote Desktop. Yes to all your other comments.

We are currently awaiting some "help" from tech support, but I am not holding my breath.

We had the same problem from one date code (M010) to another (M060).
PTC recommended that we do this and it worked.
Do this before you start the Oracle upgrade.
2) In the services window stop "Distributed Transaction Coordinator" services. Note : Make sure that the process is no longer available in task manager "msdtc.exe" (The Distributed Transaction Coordinator is a Microsoft Service which has an executable named msdtc.exe that locks some oracle *.dll files that need to be replaced during the install)

Hi Everyone,

The good news is we got it running. The ODD news is what we had to do get it to run.

  1. <LI>When installing the 9.2.0.5.0 patch, you had to make sure that the Path in the evironment variables DID NOT have WINNT/SYSTEM32</LI>
<LI>After the patch was successfully installed, you had to rename the Patch_lock file to something else (e.g. patch_lock_old)</LI>
<LI>Now before you install 9.2.0.7.0, you have to add WINNT/SYSTEM32 back into the evironment variablepath.</LI>
    <LI>Then we had a successful install.</LI>

The patch lock file advice we got from PTC, the WINNT/SYSTEM32, was just sort of a trial and error trying to figure out what was going on.

As I said, VERY frustrating considering the first time we installed 3.4 it went relatively smoothly, and any issues we had we somewhat obvious. This time...well, all I can say is that we are up and running....

Thanks to everyone who provided some guidance, you assistance was very much appreciated.

Regards,

L
