newbie questions

Hi all,

I am totally new to solid works and smulation

I opened STL file (mesh) using the solid work and I cannot apply any simulation on it ,all simulation tools(forces , ..) are demited

also when try to add the mesh to new study , give me message : there is no solid body to process

how to make the mesh suitable for applying simulation(add displacement , and show the results)

another question : is there any tutorial for simulation using solid works

I use solidworks preimuim 2010

your fast reply is highly appretiated

and thanks in advance

Ali,

What you have is a surface mesh, and what you need is a solid mesh. Once imported into SW, you'll need to perform some surface operations with the model to create it into a solid. Depending on the quality of the mesh, you may need to knit and thicken/solidify the model. Do you have surface modeling experience?

Since manipulating the stl file is very geometry-specific, you'll need to share the stl file itself for us to help further... Feel free PM me if you don't want to share the file publicly.

Ali,

I have viewed the stl file, and it appears to be the scan of the lower half of a human face - the exterior skin surface only. What kind of simulation are you looking to conduct?

yes it's I want to apply displacement nad see the effect of it on the shape of the face , also want to apply boundry conditions

could you tell me how to do that , me too I succesfuly displayed it , but cannot apply any modeling , could you provide me with the steps

Ali,

You can actually analyze this model as is, when you bring it over to simulation, you just have to mesh it with shell elements. Check out the SW Simulation help tutorials to learn how. They can be found under the help menu at the top of the screen.

Good Luck!

sorry for long absence , I tried a lot but most of
simulation menu is demitted and cannot apply force , or
do anything I search in the examples too but I failed to
find answer . could you help me with clear steps

best regards
