Needle Roller Analysis

Hi,

I'm just starting to use Mechanica, and was wondering if a line contact between 2 circluar components is achievable? I've been looking at the interaction between 3 components a shaft, needle rollers and a component with a hole in, is there any way to get these components to interact correctly?

Thanks

Yes - just remember Mechanica does not consider friction. Mechanica's contact can give you proper stress and loading throughout this assembly with three solid bodies of the proper geometry - I've done this before having spent time in the needle bearing industry. You must refineyour mesh in the contact areas for all bodiesif stress is of interest. Give consideration to how thebodies "approach" one another and what this means from a stress standpoint - sharpedges into large surfaces - ouch! Better yet, if you only need to pass loading from the inner race to the outer, use spring elements as they will solve much faster. But only use these if you know what load they will be operating under as the stiffness changes very non-linearly with load and Mechanica does not yet handle non-linear spings. Check Mechanica on-line help for info on contact and brush up on bearing mechanics and Hertzian contact stress theory if you are not familiar with them.

Good Luck
