Model colors in assembly mode

My assembly model previously had shown the colors for the parts that I had set in part mode. I was asked for nice pictures of my assembly, so I set the realview appearances in order to render using photoworks. Most of the assembly was aluminum, and now my assembly is comprised of pretty much all white colored parts. If i check the appearance flyout I can see both versions colors (assembly color and part color), and when I open the part, it's the color I want. Has anyone run into this and how can I toggle the two?
