Can anyone tell me how I can make the appearance of a part look like chrome? Or applying different appearances to parts to give them texture etc.

That is not a stupid question, because it is very possible....i'm not exactly sure what your going for, but as far as the chrome goes..you can appy textures by using the windows menu in Pro/E 2001 >'view'>'model setup'>'colors and appearances'>and create a new color. This will give you a dialog box with a tab selection to texture options where you can assign texture files to the appearance. There is also color adjustments that give the model geometry rough or shiny texture as well. I don't typically use the texture functionality, but the rough/shiny appearance works well, also a cool transperancy function also in the dialog box.
