Mating a round bar to a circle SOLIDWORKS

cmckenna

New member
I have manufactured this frame and I wish to draw it on solid works;
3 round rods are bent (these are the legs of the frame i.e. its is a tripod)

They are attached to a rounded bar which is bent into a circle and the two ends are welded together.

The legs are welded to the circle rod.

I have drawn the legs and the circualar bar but i cannot get them to mate as the bar is rounded. Any ideas?

If you wish to draw it in SolidWorks then I suggest you post it in the SolidWorks group. This is Pro/e. I'd help but I don't know much about SolidWorks.

Ask Mindzipper, he loves saladworks. It's so easy, you should be able to do it blindfolded using the intuitive microsucks interface.

Hi,

You have to develop the model using welding features in
solidworks. You can completely develop the tripod in single
part file.

'Mindzipper' was a joke, there's a user here named 'Mindripper' who constantly praises the ease of SW.

If we believed everything he said, Pro/E would be dead, PTC out of business, SW would rule the world and you wouldn't need to be here asking anything because you could have created your tripod by handing SW over to your 3 year old and he'd have built it in SW with 3 mouse clicks.

In Pro/E I'd imply use a tangent assy constraint, but I guess that doesn't exist in SW. you may have to build some assy or part level datum features to locate your parts. You could build it all as one part, but it's not a single part, it's an assy of several, so I'd build it the way it should be.

I do think you'll have more luck on the SW forums here.

Sorry I can't help you, mcmckenna: I haven't used the weldingpart of SolidWorks, but I have heard that it's quite good. I'm glad Guru.hm was able to help out, even though this is the Pro/E Drawing message board. I don't troll the SW part of MCADCentral much: I'm usually here on the Dark Side, looking for Pro/E hints. I haveabout seven years of experience withPro/E, and still have things to learn. 'Help' in Pro/E is quite lame, and their support is even worse: this board is much more helpful. Quite unlike SW, which is not only much easier to learn and use, but the 'Help' function is vastly superior. Yeah, the VARs offer much better support too.

My mo r is from a video game (Ace Combat 5), where Mindripper is one of the named enemy aces. It's also my mo r on Xbox Live and Playstation Network. One is never too old to play games.
