Materials in tables

Hi all,

I have an assembly: I have no problem about creating a table with recursive repeated regions and so on to show the component of the assemblybut I cannot find the way to show in the table the correspnding material! Since now I create a comment cell in which I re-write the material for each component - rather boring -

Anybody know how to manage it?

Hi Paolo

The only way I can think of is to add the material as a parameter and to add the parameter to the family table. If you've already tried this without success get back and I'll have another look.

What version are you running?

thanks MW

ProE2001, but soon ProE WF2

it would be great if I assign a material to the part (with density, young modulus, bla bla bla) , and then I re-call the material name in the Bill of matrials - drawing table... Many other programs (Solid Edge for example) do that!

I tried to create a parameter called mater, but I have some difficulties to recall them in the drawing table... and then I cant understand why I have to assign the material twice, 1 for the material and 1 for the parameter name... sometimes I hate ProE...

many thanks, paolo

Here's the way PTC set for getting around the problem.

That is one of the ugliest hacks I have ever seen. PTC should be ashamed of themselves. This is right up there with not being able to display the units automatically in a drawing. Why PTC would save this internally in the part but not make it available to use in a drawing is mind blowing incompetance.

I have probably found another way, reading a forum dated 23 november 2004 titled "assemply BOM (mat)".

instead of creating a new parameter for each new part, it could be a rather good idea to use one of the material predefined parameter (i.e. bend_table) and use it as material name, for example:

bend_table = G-AlSi_9

so that you define once for all the material characteristics....

By the way, it is pretty strange that ProE is not able to report the names of assigned materials in a table

see ya,

I amDELIGHTED you thought that - I was thinking I was being stupid by not following the 'logic' of it.

You have restored my faith in me!!

That's correct, to show lose parameters on the family table you have create a part/parameter relations like go to tools/relations and create for expl. volume=mp_volume(''),mass=mp_mass(''),etc. and if you what to show the results in the part dwg just insert a note with this equation volume=&volume inch^3,mass=&mass lb,etc but keep in mind you have to go to edit/set-up mass prop/source geom/param. if you don't have the density you must edit one the click on generate report the mass prop. screen will come up with it. Don't forget that on the repeate region of you table you have to specify what parameter it is, like on the cell write volume then on report symblo&asm.mbr. I know that's a lot of work but very efficient and accurate. Hope this work for you.View attachment 782

thank u william,

i'll try... I'm wondering why proE is sometimes so user unfriendly...

have a nice day,

Paolo
