Material files

How do you create and save Pro/E material files? I need to create a library of company approved materials.

Edit > Setup > Material > Define, enter the name of the material you want, proe opens you a material definition window (notepad) and lets you define your material properties.

Save your material, drive your system where to search for it : pro_material_dir

or save the material to your start part..

hi cpodom. First suggestion is to create a folder in explorer for your material files andset thepro_material_dir to this folder in config.pro. Next, open a part and use the following menu picks: Edit>>Setup>>Material>>Define. This will lead to pro/E asking for a name for the material. Type the name and pick the tick. Your text editor should then open with a list of fields to be completed. Be careful to use values consistent with your system of units. Use Save As.. to save the file in your material directory and then close it. Pick Done from the menu. Open explorer and browse to your material directory where you will find your newly created material. Ensure the material file is *.mat (where * is the material name and mat is the extension). Make as many copies of this file within this directory as you need and apply new names to them for each material you need to define. Use your text editor to edit each file with the correct values, save and close. When you need to assign one of these materials in pro/E, use Edit>>Setup>>Material>>Assign>>From File, and your materials should appear in a list from which you may select the appropriate one. I hope this helps.

If you do a quick search on the mcad website, there is a zip file to download which has loads of *.mat files already written.

This might save you a lot of time, I've only used a few of the metal ones included, and checked their values for correctness, with no error's found so far.

Also I think that the unit's used in them are imperial, and I use metric, but pro-e checks this and if the units spec'd in the *.mat file are not the same as you're current settings it will convert them automatically.

cheers

Thanks for all the info Guys, I have used some of the PTC material files but most of ours need to customized, The key I needed was after using the define was changing the extensions to a .mat file.
