License issue - new seat not working...

Here's the situation:

1. We have 2 seats of Widlfire 2. One license is on our server, and the
other is on my laptop. My laptop license is working fine, so we don't
need to worry about that. The license on the server is a Flex 3c (i.e.
loaded) license. There are also a couple other odds and ends on the
server (PDMlink heavy user license, Intralink 3.4 license, PDMlink Gateway
license.)

2. Neither of our existing seats are on maintenance.

3. We recently purchased a new basic seat of Wildfire 3. No modules,
just the Foundation XE. We bought it without maintenance as well.

4. I immediately added the new sales order number (SON) to our server
CPU ID and then requested a new license file for the server.

5. I received the license file from PTC. A quick scan of the file didn't
show any obvious (to me, at least) errors. It lists a new seat of
Foundation XE in addition to our previous licenses on that machine. I
reran the license server setup to point it to the new license file.

6. I then reran the ptcsetup.exe on one of our workstations and took care
to
setup two different license configurations. I made sure that our "FXE"
configuration did not try to call any of the other modules or Flex 3c
license.

7. Here's where things get screwy. When I try to open either WF2 or WF3
with the new seat, I get a "The license does not support this version."
error and it gives me the boot. I figured that maybe it was because our
server was running a WF2 version license server. So I waited.

8. When our WF3 disks finally arrived, I upgraded our server's license
server software to WF3. But still no dice on using the new seat. Same
error message. Strangely enough, I can still open the Flex 3c seat (in WF2
only, of course). So the license file is at least partially working.

This is really aggravating. Has anyone else run into this? It seems like an
error with how PTC set up our new seat of Pro/E. If so, I would expect
PTC fix it despite my not being on maintenance. Does anyone see a flaw
in how I installed it? I have had two licenses running on the server before
with no problems. Then again, they were both WF2 licenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
AM

Well, I finally figured it out.

First, I hadn't realized that you need to run License simplification again. I had thought that was a one-time thing going from 2001 to Wildfire.

But even after I did that, the license PTC was emailing me listed all our licenses as WF2. So even thought the new seat would open WF2, it would not open WF3.

And I am sure that I selected "I will install WF3" when I ran through the license simplification.

Anyhow, I ran through it again and received another set of licenses that still listed our seats as all WF2.

Then, out of the blue, a third set of license files showed up. They finally listed our new seat as WF3.

Now everything works. But geez. PTC makes it such a friggin' chore!

I have been there too:) More than once time

Even once I get a wf2 license where it in the old licensefile was wf3.

I call Support and ask then to fix it. Perhaps I can fix it with license simplifications, or perhaps you recieve the last licensefile because some one at PTCnotice the mistake.
