Layers

I just started at a new company and am trying to get some rhyme or reason to all the existing parts, assys, etc. One problem is that they havetoo many layersand the layer structure and names have changed throughout the years. I want to simplify the layer structure but how do I get rid of the old layers without havign to manually add items to the simplified structure. Is there a way to automatically add items to standard layers? You know like datum planes, axis, features, stuff like that.

Pro/E will automatically add features, dimensions, etc to layers as they are being created but I don't think there is an easy way to change to a different standard. I think ModelCheck will do that, we don't have it so I can't say for sure.
