INTRALINK client stalls at Splashscreen

OK, I have spent all of today banging my head against this problem, and now turn to the MCAD-Centrists for expert advice!
One of my users started downloading windows updates, and had it fizzle mid-installation, then followed up with a hard reboot. Ever since, INTRALINK on his machine can get to the splashscreen, and then it stalls. It isIntralink 3.4 on WinXP.
When I log on to his machine, the link works perfectly fine. When I log on as him, it doesn't work at all. I have created a new profile for him, no luck. I have compared env variables looking for anything odd, and rec'd nothing. I have recreated ilink.bat files in order to make it work, nothing.

ANy thoughts?

Hey 8675,

I had a somewhat similar problem as this a while ago when we had Intralink 3.3. Intralink would startup and hang at the splash screen (as your does). What I did is reinstalled the Java runtime on that particular workstation and it seemed to go away. It seems that you have tried reinstalling the Intralink client (right?), so thats all I can think that would be cuasing the problem, an issue with the runtime after the hard reboot.

However, this was not cuased by a failed Windows Update, but a application installed on the machine that ran amok and messed up some of the java with different versions. You may have some sort of of deep rooted Windows XP problem if it failed midway through the INSTALL PROCESS not the download process. In that case, other applications should misbehave as well. If no other applications are broken, I would reload the Java.

Sometimes those hotfixes break more than they fix when they are successful.

Hope this helps.

Great Idea, Cook!

I'll try that.

This user went ahead and did the update, which isn't dept policy. What can you do?

I wish I could just reload the client, unfortunately, I have inherited a networked production setup.

I'll update everyone with the results.
