How to start toolpath above Z0

tazbaby

New member
Good morning,

I have been using pro NC for some time now, but have never been able to get it to start cutting above Z0. Most of my jobs include removing material above the workpieces Z0.

I have attached a file to try and show exactly what i mean.

2006-07-10_052712_NC_Prob.zip

The cut needs to begin at the top of the mfg volume, instead it drops straight down to Z0

and gouges through 1.5mm material above the Z0 surface.

Any help plz... ive been cheating by changing the Z0 line, but our mc peeps are not happy about it !!

TIA

Hi
unlike other cam softwares , in pro/e when u create a work piece it assumes that that is exctly the work piece u r going to machine, after creating the work piece the option trim to workpiece
turns on and becomes "trim to top" automatically for safety, if u dont create a work piece , proe starts machining frm the window plane, that time the option trim to work piece changes to "no" automatically,

so if u need to start machining from above ,
1)eaither u have to create the work piece exctly above the referance part (it can be above 0 also),
2) or dont create a work piece and sketch the window or volume above(exactly where u want to bigin cutting) the refe part,
and i prefer window to volume, even ptc recomends it

Hope this helps

Hi Dibz

Can this option be "manually" changed during a mfg session ? As it does sound as if this is the problem im having. I work in both 2001 and WF2.

Hi
if u have created work piece u cant set the trim to work piece options to "no". it is not available,
i advice u to create the work piece concidering the top stock, this is a good option i too follow.

Thanx Dibz

I only create the workpiece so that i vislally check the material removal before posting the data. Think i may try without the workpiece.

Kindest regards,

Taz

You might also check to see if the "Operation" retract plane, or "Sequence" retract plane is set at Z0. Proe will not cut anything above the retract plane.
