Does anyone know how to find the Degrees Of Freedom of a part in an Assembly.

err ? wouldnt that be directly related to how you constrained it?

or are you after a point and click then it tells you?

Hello Arun,
If it is a wheel, or a gear, or a spherical joint (in a mechanism) you have to have those degrees of freedom(DOF) the mechanism needs to function properly (for a gear or wheel you need an axis/shaft, for a 3D/spherical joint you need three rotations about three axis).
These DOF are very important to specify them in PRO/Mechanica/Dynamics where you try to evaluate speeds, trajectories, and other dynamic elements.
In Assembly mode, you should be concerned the way you use the Assembly placement features (Mate, Align, Insert, Tangent, Automatic, Pnt on line, Pnt on surface, etc). If you use Mate you restrain three rotations (out of 6 DOF possible). If you use Axis Align, you eliminate 4 DOF (2 translations let

My Question is

Suppose you have an assembly with many parts and you have not perfectly constrained all the parts i.e.some of the parts are have only one or twoconstraint, is it possible to view all the unconstarined parts indicating their degrees of freedom in the assembly itself

I think this option is available in AUTODESK INVENTOR i.e it indicates a DOF symbol in the parts that are not constrained

Expecting ur valuable tips

After you assemble a part you can see whether it is fully constrained, or partially constrained or fully constrained with assumption.

The different icon in the assembly model tree shows whether its underconstrained or not.

If you have MDO license you can see degree of freedom by running force balance analysis to see the degrees of freedom of the system (assembly).

Unconstrained parts in assembly show up with a different icon in the modeltree. You have to go in "redefine" to see if a part is fully constrained with or without assumptions. It doesn't show the DOF when the part is unconstrained.

you can also go to the model tree and select settings, tree columns and add status. This will show you which components have been regenrated ie. fully constrained or packaged.
