Component Dragging...

I know a lot of you get tired of hearing me go on and on about SolidWorks, but it is VERY user friendly. One of the beautiful things about it is an individual could drag an already existing component from the modeltree into the assembly. Is this possible in Pro/E?

Not quite click and drag, but you can click on the the component in the model tree and then
ctrl-c
ctrl-v
To cut and paste....

or if you need to do multiple copies of same component select it in model tree or in the window and
then use
edit-> repeat

Then you just select which insert mate align etc you would need to change (ie don't check the ones you don't need to change)
click add
and select the assembly feature to align your new components.

I have this mapkeyed.

I'm familiarwith Repeat, I think Pro/E should use windows based hot-keys more to it's advantage however. The copy and paste thing was cool, but it could be that way in a lot of other places, drawing for instance, pasting between sheets. Another thing that can be simplified a lot is the Restructure command. All that is really needed is to drag the component to be restructured and drop it on the sub-assembly of choice. Instead, it pick component, pick subassembly, done. Start over, not even an option to pick multiple components, and if it is a config option why not make it default.

Sorry, I could go on...

But again thanks.

In windows and wf3, you can drag and drop parts from either the proe internal browser or the windows file manager. Just not from the model tree.

do you mean to say: if i have a component X assembled in my assembly and visible in my model tree. i can just select X form model tree then ctrl C ctrl V and i'l get the X component again to assemble??

i treid this but didn't work

can you explain

@Sanjeev

Yes, that's the way it works.
It will be assembled in the same location as the one you selected from the tree.

The assembly dashboard should appear at the bottom. (WF3).

Not sure why it's not working for u.

I guess more accurately it's a "copy and paste" not a "cut and paste".

still sticked to wf2

sanjeevkar1 - I use WF2 and it works for me. After you paste the component, the GP VAR DIMS menu should pop up. Here you can accept the current offset dimension or set a new one. Then you can pick the new references in the Group Elements box. That should do it.
