Column Modelling

I need to create octagonal columns for the bridge I am making. I am having trouble creating the parabolic flares near the top of the column. It starts off as a straight column, which is easy to make. Then, there are flares that keep an octagonal shape, but gets larger as you near the top. The top of the column is cut at an angle to the horizonal axis. This is where my problem comes in. I can make symmetrical flares, but I don't know how to create the flares with the slant on top. Anyone know the best way to do this?

Actually... I just figured out a way to do it. If anyone is interested, I just created a straight protusion and did two sweep cuts for the flared top.
