Colorful text on the part surface

You could create your text with a datum curve, then do a fill, unfortunately, you end up with a color blend like the one in the picture. To get around this, you would need to create your curve/fill slightly above the surface.

You could also try creating an image with the text in a drawing program and apply it to the surface as a decal. Decal isunder the Map tab of the Appearance Editor. You can scale, rotate, and position the text on the surface. This will eliminate the effect shown above.

Just like Kdem describes... use a decal for this .

And, when you do this, make sure the decal is a 4 channel pic (4.th layer will be a alphachannel) so you dont have to color the modell with the same "backgroundcolor" as in you textpic .

Iow, lets say you got a green cadmodell that you want to put your text on. Andinyour text picture the letters are blue, and the background of the picture is red, then the surface you apply your decal on will be just like the picture.(blue and red) and the rest of the modell will stay green. (not good) BUT , if you use a 4 channel pic, Pro/E will not use the background in your pic, only the blue text. (if the 4 channel is done right

) So your modell is going to stay green , and only your text will show from the picture.

If you do like this, then you can also, easily , place your decal over several patches....

Tobbo,

Any chance you (or someone else) could explain in more detail how to makea decal into a 4 channel pic, and then apply it onto a model? I have run into this problem on a few occasions and have to just do as you say, and change the model color. This would be very helpful!!!!!!!!!

offcourse.

Do you have photoshop? If so, make sure you pic is a regular RGB picture and that you are in "rgb mode"

create a marking around the text that you want to keep.

rightclick on the marking and pick "save marking" (or something like that , i got to check when i get home for the right expression, i dont have photoshop here

) then you sholud be able to see your new layer under "channels" (the tab next to layers)

The text that you want to show sholud be WHITE in the alpha layer. everything else should be BLACK , so..whats BLACK is going to be transparent in pro/E .

then just savethe pictureas TIFF and you are all done.

When you add the tiff to the surface, dont forget to add it as a DECAL, ( not a bump or texture or something...thats totaly different things

)

maybe a short desciption for how to add a decal to a surface? well...go to "color and apperance",choose "surface" instead of "Modell", pick the surface to apply your decal on , click "ok". Then Create a new color and under the "map" tab, pick "decal" (then the apperance editor opens) and add your decal there .... if you want you can do some adjustments of the placementand when your done, just click close in the "apperance placement" and "apply" in color and apperance" and the decal sholud appear on your surface.

I hope you can understand this explaination...
