Can I draw a new part in an assembly?

Can I draw a new part in an assembly? I need to reference parts in my assembly to draw my new part, but the only way I currently know how to do this is to activate an old part and add on to it. This wont work for me since I need to later CNC out the new part. Please let me know if this is possible of if you have another solution.

yes. Called Top down design. You can also create parts in the assembly. It's below the assemble icon.
