Backup

I'm hoping somebody has ran across this same issue. We have just
installed Windchill on the a 2003 windows server. Windchill is the only
thing running on this system. The problem that we are having is we have
backup's starting every night but every time it tries to backup
Windchill is hoses everything up. It closes the Method server and the
only way I can get it running again is to restart the server. Does
anybody know why you can't backup Windchills data?

You have to do dumps of the Oracle database to do a backup or else the files won't get backed up. Oracle has many files open when Windchill is running and they are all locked. Most backup software won't touch locked files.


The preferred method of backing up an Oracle-based system is to stop all processes associated with the application, stop Oracle and then do the backup.
