[ASK] CAM pro/E benefit??

Hi John,

What you say is true. There is a lot more Pro/nc can do that other cam softwares can't. Like parametric set-up sheet, family table part programing. If you want to kick it up a notch throw Intralink into the equation. I would not say it is the best cam software out there, but right now I can't think of a software that works better with proe file than pro/nc. If there is I would like to know.

as MouldMaker you have your journey, and that's importing client's file! This can be a easy job ... only in your dream. If you quote the mould for 6 weeks, than you don't afford aweek forhealing or patching a model which comes from God know where. And for this reason I can't blame your boss! Pro/E is a fine product development software with some well doneManufacturing capabilities, but for some level of junkand I today's competition ... thisis not good enough. I know Cimatron IT and I use it daily for fast ready tomill job andwhere I don't give sh*t on client revision. ....

And I say this with over 20,000 hours on Pro/E

Actually its not the matter of associativity, anyone must consider a lot of things. For example, if a person works only for plastic parts designing, the best cost effective solution is Solid Edge, SE has some features for plastic parts specially. If a person want to split molds, it needs Pro,UG or Visi. Bcoz these packages has excellent and easy split option. These are main concerns to chose any CAD/CAM Package. MasterCAM is a mid level package and its good only for CAM, If u want to design some thing in it, u must take 20 times more time as compare to Pro. Data exchage problem u just listen, what people says. Thats why worlds greatest CAD/CAM are Pro, Catia, UG and Solid Works. Now the Visi is in the line.

I don't mean to discuss prices for Pro/E or Cimatron. I was reffering to situations when a small CNC/toolroom shop don't have thetime to heal a part to have 0 geom.check. So, some people work around with software which allow you to machine fast. I don't try to say Cimatron is better than Pro/E, becouse is not ... but sometimes can be a better solution for the moment.

If you want a test ... find a IDEAs or UG export for IGES, assume that you don't have the chance to ask theoriginal designerto make another export for you and see how much time you will need to work around geom.checks, accuracy errors. :)

cheers,

Adrian
