Catia vs Solidworks

I amtrying to justify going to Catia from Solidworks, We want to use the roughing program but I am having trouble opening whatI think is a large assembly in Solidworks. The assembly on my computer takes 20 minutes to open and crashes often, simple changes can take a day.I havetalked to a Catia vendor about SolidWorks and the salesmen toldme that is the number one reason people go to Catia, "Opening large assemblies and Catia is very stable". Is this true??<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Do any of you open large assemblies? What are you times to open assemblies and do you use the electrical wire harness package.

Thank you for any information you can give.

Total number of components: 16692

Parts: 15466

Number of top level mates: 543

i think you must not work with thousands of parts at the same time, maybe just several parts, and thus the rest of them can be displayed as graphical representation (visualization mode). They are displayedlike 3d images played on the internet, which cannot be edited and the corresponding part trees have not yet been loaded. The system can be run faster. if you want to edit any one of them, just switch it back to editable mode (design mode); by then its part tree will be loaded.

for big assemblies, you can open all parts as graphical representation first to shorten the loading time. Switcha part(s)to editable mode whenever you need to edit.
