2D to 3D Impementation

My company is looking at taking the next step to 3D modeling of our products (steel and aluminum storage tanks). We currently use 2D (AutoCad) for 95% of what we do. We have Pro/E Wildfire 3 but have just used it in small areas. The upper management would like to see us go to using Pro/E for most of our work due to our customers and competitors are using 3D software. I was just looking for any information or tips to help with our transition.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

kiddbd - you can use autocad drawings in sketcher mode to create your protrutions. The best practice I have found is to save out each section cut you want to use as seppertate a-cad drawings. When you make a new part and enter sketcher mode you can then go sketch>data from file and pick the a-cad drawing to import.

Hope this helps.

You can use AutobuildZ but I've found a good technique is to save each view projection as a separate file with a common coordinate system ( I usually put this in the middle of the drawing). Then I insert these views on the Top, Front and Right datum planes. You can then build your 3D geometry by referencing the views.

Cheers,

Sam
