Hello everyone:
After much delay and three different iterations we're
about to launch the new MCAD Central forums. The current
software, circa 2004, served this community well over the
years. The new software vBulletin is the most popular
commercial forums software on the market today. As power
users you have more than likely have run across vBulletin
in the past. If you haven't or can't remember how it
works/looks/feels you can check out www.3dcadForums.com
and see how MCAD Central's sister site is using it.
Since this is such a large history of user conversations
on this forum the biggest hurdle was getting everything
to convert over to vBulletin without loosing anything
ESPECIALLY your usernames and passwords. The current
software also had many many modifications and "hacks"
done to it over the years making upgrades to the software
nearly impossible.
One of the benefits of the vBulletin software that I
personally am looking forward too is the spam controls.
SPAM has been an issue on the site for a bit of time.
SPAM bots easily defeated the CAPCHA (thats the crazy
letters you see when posting). The 3D CAD Forums site
running vBulletin has a fraction of the problem.
Another benefit that you will see is vBulletin ability to
play nicely with all current web browsers including
Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari & Microsoft Internet
Explorer.
More to come...
