helical spring with no. of turns??

I have some problem in modelling a helical spring Which is Square ended..

Here i have total no. of coils, I.D,O.D, free length, solid lenght and Wire dia.

I can calculate the pitch value. but I want to model a spring applying no. of turns not the pitch value.

Help me out...

Do let me know how to model a spring defining no. of turns. in pro/engineer.

Model the spring Using VSS , then you can deifine it by the numbers of coils

I have posted in several threads about the method. Search "spring" here on the forum and you will probably find it. if not, please let me know.

As to my knowledge you cant do that without using relations.

Write a relation that calculates the pitch based on the length of the springand aparameter defined asno of coils.

Adding a parameter to define the number of coils is only
temporary. When one changes the number of coils in the
parameter field, the Pitch does not change.
e.g. Let us say I define two parameters...
Length (Free length) and no_coils (for number of coils).
While in sketch mode, let us say I set a relation for the
sweep profile sd0 = length (assuming the sketch parameter
value for sweep profile is sd0)
and when asked for Pitch, I type Length/no_coils. The
program correctly calculates the values and sets the
pitch to a CONSTANT calculated. I say CONSTANT since, on
changing the value for number of coils, the pitch does
not change.

Tobbo I tried VSS for spring.
I got the helical spring but what should i do for modelling a conical spring??

Im a beginner..so im trying it all the way possible.
And your post are helping me a lot.

Do let me know how to model a conical spring with VSS.

well , now it

@Tobias: Thanks for the part. It gave new insights into
other possible methods.

Here is another method of modeling a Conical Spring using
the Helical Sweep command.
