Adding annotations in modeling or drawing

A little survey, do you guys add annotations, geometric tolerances, weldings and such in the modeling mode or the drawing mode?

As far as I understand it, not all of these is saved into the part file, so when making a new version using the part file, some things have to be redone it detailing later? Adding them in 3D makes sure everything is in the part, but then you have to do extra work when placing to keep them in the right plane and all that.

How do you do it?

Ah yes, it's easier to do it in drawing mode, but when making copies and variations with that model, then you have to do it all over again in the new drawing. Drop it in the model and all the annotations end up in the copy as well. Time saving for companies that does alot of variations and special orders based on other components.

Anyone that does it in the modeling mode???

You can create a GTOL in drawing mode but as long as the model is set to the part (or asm) instead of the drawing, the GTOL is added to the model and can be shown in another drawing. I find this to be the best way. Just have to make sure users show GTOL's before creating new ones or you can end up with multiple copies of the same GTOL in a model.

For annotations, u just save all the annotations as a notepad and insert note from file select the notepad which one u want as u savd earlier. Create a map key for inserting note, welding n tolerances as well.

There was a nice class on WF3 3D drawings at the PTC|conference. You can add all the dims, GTOLs& notes for a drawing in the model using annotation features. The commands are identical to drawing commands, mostly. You then simply show the annotations in the drawing.
