Master model concept

This is how my employer does it.

Our structure would consist of a 'PM'file which would be a single solid body to represent a tool holder.

An 'AM'file would be assembly of thecomponents for library partsof the hardware/insert mated to the component of the tool holder.

The 'top level' file would have only drawing information.

It's tough to explain in words. I do much better when I can 'show and tell'.

Master model concept is something like u have a main model which is with the design team ok . now the otheer departments need this model so this model is shared by all the departments QC,Analysis,Manufacturing and any change is to be done into the model the copy of that model gets updated where as master model does not get updated unless the model is edited by the design department so in this way the model remains intact

Master modeling can be thought of in terms of manufacturing
a part. You start with your main component a casting, forging, some type of
base part that you will modify as it flows through your company. This base part
is the Master Model. I work in the Aero Engine business with airfoils, and the
base part for us is the casting model. This is the initial design on which the
Machining model, then the Manufacturing files will be built on. As the parts
are added to an Assembly the Master Model Parts will form the basis for the
assembly. This finally ends up with something like a Digital Mock Up (DMU)
which is use to visualize the whole module or engine.

The advantage of Master Modeling is that any changes in the
Master Model are communicated automatically
