You can re-select the points from the distance toolbar.
i.e. when you've hit the distance icon, and the distance toolbar pops up, select the 1st point, then select 2nd point to get the required distance. Then return to the toolbar, and hit the icon for either the "Point or Object 1" or "Point or Object 2" and choose a different point on the model to get the next measure.
This obviously works best if you need several dimensions from the same edge/surface.
Make sure you use the snap point icons to suit the objects you are trying to measure - if you can't seem to get the point you want use the snap selection to get it.
