Mass calculations for parts & assemblies

Hi,

How are you generating the mass for your parts in NX3? We do not
have weight management, and there isn't a "template" part set up at the
company I have just joined.

I can assign a density to a part - and then use the Analysis .. Measure Bodies.. to get a volume and a mass.

Is there a way to link these to an expression so that the part can have
attributes set that calculate the mass of the component from the
assigned material density and the volume of the part? There must
be some system parameters in NX3 that can be used for expressions, but
I can't find them.

Obviously, I want the attributes to then call them out in the drawing.

In assemblies, how then can I get a total mass from the individual components?

Any advice?

Cheers.

DID YOU GOT THE SOLUTION FOR THE BELOW QUESTION, IF SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

THANKS IN ADVANCE,

We made the jump from NX3 to NX6 last year.

Let's see if I can remember this.

I think you'll have a small icon on the Analysis>Measure Bodies bar that looks like a floppy disk. The same icon used for 'save'. If you select this, I do believe that it will create a feature that is your measurements.

Currently i am using NX5.

well i wanted to have this result in a part list.

example: my part list has following fields,

position #, db_part_no, db_part_name, qty, p_mass, total weight.

here in total weight i want the result of (qty*p_mass)....

how to get it....

please help me.
