Wildfire 2 on Windows 7

I am changing over from Windows XP Prof.to Windows 7 Home Premium using Wildfire 2 on my desktop PC. After the usual setup and placement of Host ID and Keygen, all of the installation works smoothly until I try to launch it. I get the following message: 'ERROR: Unable to launch ProENGINEER because no valid configuration (*.psf) files were found. Please run 'ptcsetup' from your installation 'bin' directory and create a PTC startup file. This is needed for Pro Engineer to launch successfully'

I have looked in the 'bin' folder and the .psf files appear to be there. Any ideas?

I have successfully installed this same software on a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premiumso is there something in my desktopPC configuration that is preventing another installation? The host ID on the laptop is diffewrent to that of my desktop and I use a wifi connection (hardwired for the desktop)

Are you by any chance upgrading XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit? It sounds like that might be the case.

You will need the matching version 32/64 of Pro/E to run on the OS. And I don't think it will be easy to get WF2 to run in Windows 7 even if using Compatibility mode on xtop.exe.

Please post more details about your situation if you need more details. Also posting your psf file here might help too.

Thanks for the feedback dave,

I have now successfully loaded ProE Wildfire2 onto Windows 7. Whilst I realise that Windows 7 has the option of downloading software to run in either 32 or 64bit modes, I think mine is running in 32bit mode. I had to employ an IT guy but it was worth it as I rely on this bit of software to earn some of my living! Unfortunately I can't say what he changed but sufficient to say that it can be done. For anyone looking to use this forum, I can say that it can be used ONLY in the locked node when installing.
