Where’s That Color I Created?

verge

New member
I've defined the same color ten times now, and everytime I want to change another part to that color, the color isn't available in the appearance editor. How many times does one have to define black? Where does it disappear to when I've finished with it? Also, if I try to define "black" again, I'm told that I already have a color of that name. I can't find it, but it's there somewhere.

Also, what about colormaps? How do they work and how do I install one so that it's easily available for me to use? Pro-E help doesn't seem to address this issue at all. Sometimes the basic techniques are the biggest mysteries in Pro-E!

When you create your color, are you saving it? At the top of the color box, hit file/save. In 2001 it saves as a color.map file. I think in WF it is a .dmt file.

Then in your config.pro, you can specify pro_colormap_path to point to this file.

Perfect. That's exactly what I needed. I never could find that config for colormaps. Well, at least something's under control now!

Thanks, telecomguy.

verge,

if you did lose the color in your map but had it in a part, don't forget the button for copying from the part...

I keep multiple color maps so I can switch easily based on the rendering and or customer...

cheers,

M

That's a good idea. I'll have to start doing that, also. Hasn't really become an issue yet, but will soon.

Thanks.

You can also save the .map/.dmt in your pro/e installation directory. Doing this prevents you from having to activate the config.pro option pro_colormap_path.Just save the color map file in the following example.(Ex. C:\Program Files\proeWildfire 2.0\graphic-library\appearances) Here a link to a web link to a site that has predefined .dmt files

I've tried the pro_colormap_path option in config.pro pointing to a dmt file, but it doesn't like it.

Can WF3 take that config.pro setting?

Andy,

Did you try to save it in the directory in bold in the post above. Yours on the other hand will probably say wildfire 3.0 instead of 2.0. Let me know if this works for you.

The ProE path I saved it in was something like c:\proE\wf3\colours\

I copied and pasted the exact file path from windows into the text editor for config.pro

I've tried the .map extension instead of the .dmt extension, but the files are two very different formats if you open them with a text editor.

I've tried moving to the "\Wildfire3\graphic-library\appearances" directory, and updating the Config.pro to suit.

I've tried renaming within that directory to "Appearance.dmt" or "global.dmt" and updating the config.pro to suit.

Nothing above worked!!!!!

Only problem with copying files to folders within the Pro/E installation is that you lose them whenever you come to install a newer release.

Andy,

Try removing the pro_colormap_file option, then restart you computer making sure your color map file is saved in the directory i menstion in my other post. Also you have to delete the .dmt file in that directory or move it.I don't have a pro_colormap_file set in my option and my colors are still loaded a startup. you could also load in the .dmt file manually.

I was having a similar issue with my color.dmt file not loading after I associated it with the pro_color_map config option. After applying that change in the config window I realized I needed to save the new config.pro file...duh, I should've thought of that sooner. :)

Now Im having a new problem...the color.dmt file loads in the color and appearance editor fine. But for all my custom created colors only the intensity, ambient and shine settings stayed the same and the colors were set to black. Any tips?

Thanks!
