weld symbols....

anyonecomment on how you build weldments and manage the weld symbols. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

take a bicycle for the example.

1 Do you build the parts using top down design then brake them up for individual piece part drawings?

2 And if you do that do you merge the parts all back into one model for any reason to make a weldments drawing of a part instead of an assembly?

3 Do you keep the weldments as an assembly and show weld symbols there?

4 How do you show weld symbols from the basics. Create them in the assembly and show them in the assembly drawing?

We make separate piece parts and then assemble them. Depending on the how complex the assembly is, dictates how we create the drawing. If there are more than a couple of parts, we create an assembly drawing showing assembly views. Then detail the parts in those views.

If there are many piece parts, we detail each piece on the assembly drawing, show the necessary assembly views and call out each piece part listed in the parts list.

We create each weld symbol as needed in the assembly drawing views.

As for the top down question, that all depends on how your company dictates what the design process is, if any. We do not use top down design here.
