unbend a u shape

I have created an extrusion like a u shape, 90 degrees both sides.
could you tell me how to find out the necessary length to obtain that specific shape ?

If you aren't already switch over to sheetmetal mode by
going to applications ->sheetmetal. This will automate
the converting to a sheetmetal part.

Then you can use the unbend command to flatten the part.
After this is completed you can just measure the
distance from end to end to get the size you would need.

i did convert it to sheetmetal but the unbend command just won't flat my "bar".
it asks me for a surface that will remain fixed and from there on, no matter what i select, the unbend function won't go through.

is there anything extra that i should do ?
i have created my u shape through a protusion function, sketching a trajectory and then defining a circular section.

thank you and best regards.

To flatten or unbend the part you can also select the surface which represents the thickness of the plate. This one is, I believe, always fixed and flat.

so it is a sweep?

Because you used the words, protrusion, trajectory, and
section to define the feature you created, it must be a
sweep.

So depending on what you trajectory looks like you may
not be able to unbend it.

You may have to take some measurements in the fully
formed state and decide manually what your stretch
factor is to get a reasonable size.
