rcamp describes this technique here and suggests that it is particularly useful when used with family tables. Anyone else tried this method?

not sure if this could get added but I use "cutout" often as a boolean operation. It is particularly helpful when you need to parametrically model the surrounding air volume of a chamber for example with respect to preparing a CFD analysis...
