Thread display in drawings

Moring all,


I have a tubular component that has 2 tapped holes going into the curved surface of the tube. How can I stop the thread from showing on the left hand view. There is no material here so I have no idea why the software can see the thread details in this area. I've tried "drilling up to next surface" but I'm unable to select the ID of the tube, I've tried the "drill to intersect with selected surafe" and again I can't select the ID, I've tried "drill to selected quilt, but can't select the ID, The only option that seems to work is "....drill by specified depth value" but this is not the pictorial result that I need.

This should have read.........."How can I stop the thread from showing inside the hollow area of the tube on the left hand view.........

Before you create the hole, make a surface copy of the inside surface and use this to trim the thread quilt.

If you use the sepperate cosmetic thread feature instead of the canned hole tool you can create the thread up to surface so you don't have to trim it.

Thanks for your imut, how do i do a surface copy, cant find this in the help files or on the net.

After a few hours I have managed to copy the surface, now how do I trim the thread........Very fustrating waste of time for such a simple thing. How can pro E produce a drawing with a thread tapped into no material. Never seen this done before by other CAD systems.
 
Dr_gallup told you how to dothis simple taskcorrectly
and yet you still wasted your time on something totally unnecessary

Having the thread extend past the parent material DOES have it's
uses. I need it regularly to tap through two sections of steel that have
been welded together






Also; how many taps do you plan on breaking and will thebad
threads resulting from the asymetric material removal cause other
problems.

Thanks for all the reply's, unfurtunately I stepped the component out and detailed it in Inventor. Not really an ideal solution but I just couldn't afford any more time. Part is made now. (No taps broken, inside bore machined after the tapped holes where added). I try'd Dr_gallups method and Sips method but I just couldn't get it to work.


I would still like to learn how to do this though. I've turned off the "include thread surface" in the shape tap of the hole feature. Then tried to add a cosmetic thread but was unable to define the depth, I tried UpTo Pnt/Vtx, Up to curve, Upto surface but couldn't select anything.


Dell_boy, are you able to forward your model and drw to me somehow so that I can see how you did this ?

Hole1: Select the thread quilt, Edit, Intersect, ctrl+pick the cylinder face. Select the thread again, Edit, Trim and select the intersection curve.

Hole2: No thead on the hole feature, then Insert, Cosmetic, Thread.

(I'm not much of a hole borer, myself, and would appreciate an pointers on more efficiently placing the holes if there be any.)

The only thing you need to do as the good Dr put it, is to place a cosmetic thread.


Have a hole cut as the tapping size and then place a cosmetic thread.


I recently discovered this myself after facing the same problems that you are faced with.


I am happy with my results....go on give it another go.
