Spring Damping

Hi all,



I'm using Pro/Mechanica Wildfire 2.0 and I can't seem to find any
facility to model a spring with damping. I have found that if you go
into FEM mode you can set it up but thats not much help when it comes
to running analysis in mechanica.



If this function is not available, is there any way to model an active
force. ie one that changes with respect to a measure or parameter in
Mechanica?

What I wuld suggest is to use MDO. apply springs and dampers to your movable assembly and then use Transfer loads from MDO to Mechanica.


This is is the right way to get best results. Even if dampers are available in Mechanica I would suggest this technique.

You can do something like this (2006-08-26_161214_mcad.prt.zip) in mechanica. Run model mechanica (dyn_freq analysis) and look for results. You should find an freqency - (displacement, velocity, acceleration) curves. (Model damping is set at dyn_freq analysis)

Another alternative is to use Dynamic Time analysis. There you can give time varying loads and damping for model.

Consider using MDO if this is not what you are looking for.
