Simplified rep help

Hey guys, new to the website. however, i currently make method sheets for our line to build our AC units. We have complete layouts, and some layouts that are being modified. Anyway, i create method sheets using simplified reps, and when i do this, i exclude everything i dont want in the drawing. and only leave what i want.

So, when the drawing iscreated and printed, it is correct, however when other designers work in the assembly i created the rep from, and add a part, or something, it messes up my simplified rep. meaning, the other parts are now in my drawing, and other maps, whatever they changed, or added, is now in my simplified rep, and when i open the drawing, its all hosed up.

Any help fellas.. email me if you like, i can send screen prints.

I would use an "exclude rep". this used to be a regularoption, but now it seems that youjust pick the entire assembly and it changes from ''def:master rep" to "def: exclude comp"; then pick the parts that you want in your rep. this should keep new parts from "appearing" in your reps.

i havent really tried that, so, only having master rep showing on the parts i want to keep? sounds like it might work, i will try that today, and see what happens. only problem i can see with that, is that i wont be able to see the parts i want to include. meaning, they will be hidden by panels, or other parts, or zones, and maps.. that i want to exclude, in order to get to the items i want, they are buried deep in the assembly

But, when i create a rep, here is what i do, i exclude everything i dont want, i never include. i just leave those items on the screen, but not as master reps.

ok.. tried it this morning.. and it didnt work.. when i added a new component to the layout.. it messed up my simplified rep.. is there any way to just lock the rep, so nothing is added to the rep.. once i get the rep completed.. i am done.. i have no need to change it, unless there is a change request from the floor.. or something that actually affects that change request.. but if i am adding a new top panel, and put it in the layout, my rep showing the bottom panel, and base.. are now affected..

We use PDFs for our released documents. Once we "print" to the PDF and control it, the PDF will never change. If an engineer changes the whole solid model layout, the released document stays the same. Also makes it easier for others to call up and make hard copies of documents, without having to deal with Pro-E.

It doesn't solve theproblem of your sim reps changing, but it will keepthe layout in your documentsthe same.

We do the same.. with new Wildfire 5.0 our reps are done different and fixed the issues.

I agree with Jack. Create a new simplified rep, exclude the top level assembly, then include what you want to show. If excluding components in a sub-assembly, then wanting that to show in the upper level assembly, create a simplified rep in the sub-assembly and use substitute rep in the top level assembly. Been doing this for years. Stay away from simplified reps on features in .prt"s (never liked the behavior in drawings), once a simplified rep is used in a drawing and a table/auto balloon is applied you can't change the rep without recreating the table/balloons. Also, I usually redefine the default rep to exclude hardware or cabling for faster regeneration. Setting this brings up the default rep when opening the model.
