renaming merge reference parts

Is there any way to change the name of a part you merge into another part? I would like to be able to have a different name for the part that gets merged in, but it seems like once you've done an External Merge there is no way to change the name of the part it looks for.

Well open the merge part from the part file in which u have used it & then try to rename the merge part, think it will be done.

Ok what do you guys mean when you say to rename exactly?
The only way I know of "renaming" a part is by "Save a
Copy" and using a different name for the copy.

There is a rename command under the File menu. You can also add the icon for it to the toolbar.
