Nesting Parts / Cut Pattern

Hello All,

I have a question regarding making a cut pattern. Here is the situation:

- I haveflat stock material (say 12"L x 12"W x 1/4"T) that I mold (call this prt001).

- I would like a final machined part (call it prt002) to be 1"L x 1"W x 1/4"T to be cut from my prt001 material.

- prt002 will be cut from prt001 using a 1/4" dia end mill.

My question: Is it possible to create an automatic nest using these parts with an offset for the tool and to show this layout on a drawing?

I am using CREO Elements/Pro Release 5.0 Date code M070.

Thanks in advance!

That's a great question, I've been looking into it for you.

NC sheetmetal has autonesting functionality. Where you can do exactly as you describe.

1. You have to create a sheetmetal part or convert it to sheetmetal (this will therefore be limited to flat parts..I think)

2. Create a manufacturing assembly (for sheetmetal) You can then define your work piece and create a cluster.

3. Create another manufacturing assembly, this time NC.

4. Then assemble your sheetmetal assembly, now you can use that endmill!

Hope this works for you:)View attachment 5188
