Models and Drawings without GDT

At your company, when you as the engineer/designer do notcall outGDT and thus have no GDTdatums called out on the model or drawing, how does your Q/A pick planes and centerline?

Our Q/A dept has been handleing this well over the years, howeverfrom inspector to inspector they may use a different measureing deviceand/or different reference locations and origins when not defined by datums and datum points on a drawing. The question is how to take the guess work out of their inspection points for general parts.

One option is tocall outnormal GDTdatums on the drawing, with or without actualGDT call outs. However, in my experiance I have never seen datumson a model ordrawingwithout some sort ofGDTbeingutilized. Has anyone been asked to do this? Or something similar?

Any ideas or opinions?
