dimensional change in curvedriven pattern

kanishk

New member
Here I want to pattern the hole with the hole diameter increment being unity(something like a "Procircle")

The pattern should be along the spiral curve shown.but,as I give it a
try Pro/Engineer does not allow me dimensional variation in diameter and
I get all holes of same diameter.

Any suggestions?

Hi kanishk,
please, take a look at this attached file.

I have drawn a simple spiral (i don't know your curve
equation).

If you want to change also the diameter of holes, you
have to specify not only the value of position of axis
along your curve; as second dimension used to drive your
pattern, press CTRL key and select the hole dimension
(insert a new value if the one proposed is not what you
want).

Using this method, you can specify as many dimension as
you want to drive pattern.

Attached file is a Proe/Wildfire 4.

I hope this can help you, but if you have any troble, or
if you need more detailed instructions, write me without
problems.

Best regards,

hi Fabrizio,
Thanks for the reply.
I am eager to see your solution, but due to some site maintenance issues,i am unable to download the zip file.

I figured it out.just a little trick.Actually we have to tie the extrusion with the spiral as reference using some construction geometry.

Like this?

Choose "axis" as the type of pattern and enter
number/angle etc. as usual.

Then click "dimensions" tab and click on the "click here
to add item" bit under "dimension" and the usable
dimensions will appear on the model. Click the diameter
of the hole and enter a dimension corresponding to how
much you would like the diameter to increase each
repetition in the pattern.

@tom_dl
thanks for the reply.
However, the centres of your circles lie on a circle.I would rather like them to align along a spiral curve.
An Axis pattern doesn't allow for patterning along the spiral curve.we'll use a curve driven pattern here.So we have to use a construction line to tie the circle with( variable diameter with a given increment say 1), and then putting that section(circle) onto the curve.

Just as a note for anyone reading through this topic and
not able to download fabfra1967's file, the link is broken.
It should be:

proe/forum/uploads/fabfra1967/2012-02-05_155854_pattern.zip

(all on one continuous line, obviously)
