I am trying to analyze an assembly composed ofthin-walled structures.

When I try to compress the assembly (midsurface compression), it is unable to correctly compress at the interface. I would like to model the interface as a perfect bond between the two parts. I gather that Mechanica is supposed to do this automatically, as an automatic midsurface connection. The parts individually compress just fine in part mode, but the automatic connection is not made in assembly mode. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
I have tried creating surface regions on the area of contact so that the two shells to be joined are the exact same size, but this gives the result you see below:
