Remote desktop and 3D acceleration

When a company has no "real" IT management and hardware choices are left to narrow minded end users you end up using CAD on a standard PC with integrated Intel graphics card and using Comsol on a (remote desktop) workstation with 60+ gigabytes of RAM, a slow hard disk and the worst xeon processor on the market, coupled with an ATI Fire card that is only suited to multi-monitor 2D graphics.

Now the choice is wether to buy a new workstation for CAD, or add a decent 2D graphics card to the remote desktop workstation. Considering that COMSOL and Creo could live-link it would be great to have both on the same hardware... Do you know if there's a way to enable a sort of 3D acceleration through remote desktop?
