Override of Autogeneration of Part Number

Currently, we have our Solidworks model part numbers being autogenerated by Windchill upon creation. I was wondering if there is a way in Windchill 10.1 to give our engineers a way to override that and give it a number manually when needed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

while connected to windchill, open the assembly/part in SW and then "save as" it will be save with auto generated numbers and the names of the parts will be of you choice.

you CAN CUSTOMIZE AND DO USER DEFINED NUMBERING SCHEMA.
