I have a part in an assembly that is similar to other parts. If I cnahge the part, and save as copy, the copy part changes in the assembly, I thought that the whole point of save as copy was for this not to happen. Is there other settings thet i am missing?

There are 2 options:

First: Shut down solidworks - copy and paste the faile, what you want to... then rename the fail and open the solidworks. Now you have 2 different part file with no external referencehttp://help.solidworks.com/2010/Eng...lp/sldworks/Assembly2/External_References.htms

Second: http://help.solidworks.com/2010/English/solidworks/sldworks/ legacyhelp/sldworks/Parts/Derived_Parts.htm

read this allso

Good luck, Solidworksengineer
