Rolling a flat sheet to make a tube

Minivan

New member
Hi all,

I
am a Solidwork beginer user and have to make an animation that shows a
tube (2 open ended) is made by rolling a flat thin flexible plastic
sheet. I will also have to show some bending of the tube.

Any idea how to do it? I still do not have any idea how to start it.

Any suggestion on doing it using other softwares rather than Solidworks?

I'd really appreciate any help!!!

Hi Bill,

If you skect the profile of the tube (the top of the
required cylinder) then go to 'Insert/Sheet Metal/Base
Flange' this should allow you to extrude the sheet
thickness and length you require.

Then just double click on the 'unfold' icon (either in
the left side panel or again in the 'Insert/Sheet metal
section... then unfold') this should give you the flat
version of what you've just sketched.

Hope this helps : )

Hi,

You can't do this in Solidworks. You can do this kind of
animations by 3DVIA composer just by making multiple 2D
images.. Just try..

Regards,
Rajiv.
