IF..... your part got holes in it, then you, like krow72 and MGortner says, need to stitch it back together. And yes , IDD is one way to do it. You could probably use regular surfacing to cover the holes too.
If your part dont have any holes in it, and just isa surface modell, then "solidify" is a good way to go.
How much experience with surfacing do you have, and could you upload a pic of the modell so we can se the surfacemodel?
